4/9/04 Port of Klickitat Plans Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Bingen Point The Port of Klickitat will be celebrating the completion of a new 25,000 square foot light industrial building at Bingen Point with a ribbon cutting ceremony to be held Tuesday, April 20, 2004 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event at the new facility located at 118 East Columbia River Way, southwest of the port's office at Bingen Point. “The Insitu Group has been a port tenant since 1996, and is a leading-edge company which has been adding excellent family wage jobs and numerous benefits to our community. Insitu's employment levels have continued to grow, and at present they have 32 full-time positions, 3 interns, and 10 consultants. Having light industrial space available, which can be offered to the Port’s existing tenants and potential tenants, is very important to our area’s economic growth and diversity", stated port Executive Director Dianne Sherwood. The building allows for The Insitu Group's expansion and production of Unmanned Aeronautical Vehicles (UAVs), which are utilized in numerous ways: by the military, for weather monitoring and by fishing fleet operators for spotting schools of fish. The facility shell and related infrastructure was substantially completed on October 8, 2003 by TEAM CONSTRUCTION, INC., of Vancouver, WA, at a cost of $1,262,787.12, plus tax. The interior improvements will be substantially completed on April 19, 2004 by O'BRIEN CONSTRUCTORS, LLC., of Portland, OR, at a base bid of $799,339 plus change orders and tax. Randy Salisbury, DSP Architecture, PLLC of Vancouver, WA and his team designed the facility and interior improvements. Sherwood stated that this project was made possible due to great partnerships between the port and numerous agencies. In addition to $1.1 million of port issued bonds and $129,800 in port cash, other funding commitments for the $2.4 million project included: The Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) with a $650,000 low interest loan; a Klickitat County $500,000 grant; and pre-design and design grant funding in the amount of $50,000 from the US Forest Service (USFS) and $50,000 from the Washington State Office of Trade and Economic Development (OTED). The new building joins three other buildings within the first phase of the port’s Bingen Point Business Park, resulting in over 50,500 square feet of light industrial space. |
