PRESS RELEASE DATE: October 21, 2002 FROM: Dianne Sherwood, Executive Director CONTACT: 509-493-1655 Four soil boring holes, down to a depth of 35 feet, were drilled west of the Port of Klickitat’s existing business park at Bingen Point Monday, October 21, 2002. The borings were taken by GeoTech and will be analyzed by the firm GeoEngineers. The soils analysis, as well as a site survey performed by Bell Design Company, of Bingen, are components of the port’s pre-design contract work assigned to DSP Architecture of Vancouver, Washington. The work will determine suitability of the site and its soils, for consideration for the future construction of a light industrial building. The new facility would allow the expansion of two of the port’s existing tenants. Port executive director Dianne Sherwood stated that “the future construction of a light manufacturing facility could potentially allow Innovative Composites Engineering (ICE) and The Insitu Group to collectively add 42 new jobs to the area over the next three years”. The port’s existing three Bingen Point buildings currently house 6 businesses with over 62 jobs, representing a yearly payroll of over $2.54 million, and an average wage of $37,222. Grant funding for the design components of this project has been awarded to the port from the Washington State Community, Trade and Economic Development office and the U.S. Forest Service. Funding commitments for future construction have been awarded by the Washington State Community Economic Development Board and Klickitat County. The Port also owns approximately 660 acres at the Dallesport Industrial Park, which currently sites 14 businesses within its boundaries, representing over 59 jobs. This heavy industrial park is the site of the new Klickitat County wastewater treatment facility, which will be on line and operational this month. |
