Before serving as a commissioner, Betty was owner of Pacific Coast Foods (a food concession firm).

During her tenure, the "Bluff Property" in White Salmon was purchased, the "beach" at Sailboard Park was constructed, aggregate mining operations began at Dallesport, the Bingen Point Comprehensive Park and Recreation Plan was adopted, and operation of lumber re-load and propane storage facilities began at Dallesport.
