Before serving as a commissioner, Mr. Reed worked for the Washington Fruit and Produce company, was a Manager for Underwood Fruit and Warehouse, and was Mill Superintendent at the SDS Lumber Company (a position he held while serving the Port). Don resigned from the Port Commission citing his opposition to acquiring the "Bingen West" properties and retired in 1978. He passed away in ???? at age ??.
During his tenure, additional property in the Bingen West area (owned by SDS Lumber in 2010) was acquired, a substantial update of the Port's Comprehensive Scheme of Harbor Improvement (targeting the "Bingen East" properties now owned by the Port) was completed, the Port joined the newly created Columbia River Development Association, and the Washington legislature authorized ports to establish industrial development districts.
